Ever thought youíd like to try living on a narrow boat? Cruise Britainís lovely canal system? LaughingDogBoats is your opportunity. Our boats are available for long term occupancy from a minimum of six months, at a fraction of normal holiday hire charges, cost is comparable with renting a flat. Some people let out their own property to offset boat costs for the duration of their cruise.
We currently have two narrow boats available for the live aboard experience.

'Laughing Dog' 58ft Cruiser Stern

A recently built boat with ample space for several people to keep the skipper company and enjoy a beer or coffee whilst cruising. She is beautifully fitted out in traditional style with attention to detail, your comfort and convenience. Floors are oak as is much of the wall panelling.

Laughing Dog Bedroom and storage area From the stern three steps down brings you into the boatís boot locker, storage and wardrobe area. Then behind a reclaimed oak settle is the main cabin with fixed double bed providing lots of under bed storage, there is a potbellied stove for extra warmth on snowy winter nights plus a radiator running from the Epping range.
The cross boat bathroom is a generous size, providing a bath with shower over, basin, cassette toilet, mirrors and storage. Ample hot water for the whole boat is provided via a calorifier (a tank that utilises and stores water heated by the engine). Heating for the bathroom is provided from a large towel rail. Laughing Dog Bedroom salon "Laughing Dog" has a salon with cushioned seating for dining. This area is simple to convert into a double bed for guests. The salon has a comfy sofa by a solid fuel/wood burning Epping stove for snug nights on the water. The Epping is used for cooking, heating the bathroom towel rail and bedroom radiatior.
The salon leads into the galley with granite surfaces, full sized sink, ample storage, gas hob and oven (rarely needed when the Epping is on). There is an electric fridge run by the battery bank and again oak everywhere. A simple mini twin tub electric washing machine provides adequate laundry facilities using a minimum of water and power. Double doors open onto the bow of Laughing Dog with pots of flowers and fresh herbs ready for the cook, a real home on the water! Laughing Dog Kitchen

'Goosemoor' 50ft Traditional Stern

Fitted out in traditional style by renowned boat fitter Richard Wilmington with plenty of roses and castles! Goosemoor handles really well and is much loved and admired by those cruising her. Click here to read testimonials from some of our customers.

Goosemore Bedroom Entering from the stern is the BMC 1.8 engine with insulated housing plus lots of storage for tools and wet weather gear. Down one step, through a door brings you into the fixed double cabin with a supremely comfy bed, lots of storage, clever shelving and generous wardrobe. Along the gangway on your left is the shower and toilet, again, lots of storage.
The Galley has an oven, grill and hob, stainless steel sink, shelving and storage, fitted out in wood. There is also a hatch with traditional painted flowers with a clear Perspex screen enabling you to enjoy the light, even on wet or windy days. Goosemore Galley
Goosemore Oven The galley is open plan to the saloon with a centrally situated wood/solid fuel stove with back boiler feeding radiators providing warmth to the entire boat. The fridge is electric and runs from the battery bank. Compact leather armchairs and single bed/chair for guests give ample seating.
There is a small TV and CD/radio. Double doors with cupboards either side exit to the bow with a cratch cover to keep out the winter and shelter the herbs! There is also storage for coal/logs and two LPG gas bottles. Goosemore's ample seating

'Dither' 57ft Traditional Stern

Offering a generous, functional, no frills open plan living space.
Entering from the stern is a generous engine room housing a Perkins 4018 engine, (the great British workhorse) plus lots of storage for tools and kit. Through door to raised double bed with shelving above and large storage area beneath incorporating lighting and radiator.
Next, a compact bathroom unit with shower, cassette toilet, washbasin and storage. Along the gangway with hanging space, into the walkthrough galley with gas cooker, electric fridge and ample storage.
Open plan to living area with Morso Squirrel Stove and back boiler feeding radiators and heating water. Water is also heated via a calorifier when running the engine.
The spacious living area has a futon sofa bed, bureau, gate leg table and chairs. Glazed double doors enter the bow area with storage locker for gas.
"Dither" is just the warmest, most cosy boat ever!

'Luna' 50ft Traditional Stern

Luna is open plan, contemporary in design with a masculine feel. The fit out is in chunky solid oak, with warm, rich, red internal paintwork. There are portholes and a roof window floods the interior with light.

Luna Bedroom Entering the engine bay from stern steps is a lovely old BMC 1.5 engine that purrs! An ingenious wall storage for tools and any kit you may have; this is altogether a very useful space.
Door through to sleeping area with charming double oak bed and storage under.
Through to spacious living area with comfy sofa, multi-fuel stove, solid oak table and seating with integral storage converting to double bed.
